Zach, 2.0

Today's post is devoted to some more senior pictures of Zach- if you missed the first set, you can check it out two posts back right here. You might remember that we shot Zach's pictures over two separate days, and the climate variety and extra time was soooo worth it. The second day was spent almost exclusively outside, which was more his style, and mine too.

We started out by hitting the downtown area of Albert Lea, to enact some shots I had envisioned for a long time.

If this doesn't remind you of "Newsies," you've probably never seen it (p.s. you should)

Zach really plays saxophone (it is not just a cool looking prop), and playing on street corners was super-fun.

Someone passing by even wanted to monetarily show his gratitude for the improved ambience!

From downtown we headed to the waterfront, and spent some time on the dock:

Although he had his alto sax on the streetcorner, Zach whipped out his soprano when we go to the lake

Love this shot:

In an unprecendented move, I will add a !!!3rd!!! post of Zach's pictures. We tried tons of new things, and there is just a lot I would love to share. But, to whet your palate, here is a taste of what's to come:

Wilke Family

Although I will still be posting more pictures of Zach's senior shoot, I am going to put that on hold in order to show you another side of 1000 Words Photography- family shoots! I took these pictures of my husband's family using a self-timer so that I could be in them, too. Due to the fact that my sister-in-law got married while Josh and I were living in Africa, this was the first complete family picture we have had in a very long time. My parents-in-law's German exchange student wanted some pictures to take back home, so we took some photographs even though we only had a few minutes. All I have to say about the self-timer is that taking AND being in the pictures is a lot more exhausting than what I usually do!
The fruits of our labor:

This is pretty much how we look all the time :-)

Zach's Senior Portraits, Part 1

As promised, here are some more shots of Zach. These pictures are from the first day of shooting, and most of them were taken inside, as the weather was freezing!!! Just a few days later, we had a warm, beautiful, sunshiny day to do the second half of this shoot- so typical of dynamic Minnesota. Zach l-o-v-e-s music, and therefore a large share of his photos include one of his instruments- drums, saxophone, and guitar. These first drum shots were taken on the same stage he performs on almost every week in his youth group's worship team- he was right at home!

We took this in front of some corrugated tin in the youth room- it remiinds me of our time spent in Africa!

Zach is also super-involved in plays, and wanted a way to showcase his past theatrical experiences. He brought a stack of t-shirts to the shoot, and this is what we came up with:

Even though it had been misting off and on all day, we took a few minutes to run outside to get some photos of Zach playing guitar. Some of my favorites:

These couple are both taken on the same sweet red couch, but I couldn't decide which one I liked more, so I decided to share both. What do you think, eyes or rug and couch?

Later this week, I'll post more of Zach's photos from our outdoor shoot. Come back to have a look!!!

Zach's Senior Portrait Preview

This past week, Josh and I had the privilege of taking his younger brother's senior pictures. We shot on 2 different days, but since Zach is full of energy and silliness, we were never bored! Our shoot involved street corners, a lake, saxophones (multiple!), a rooftop, corrugated tin, and more. Here's a sneak peak:

There is oh-so-much more from where these came from, and I can't WAIT to show you!!! Check back soon!

Time of Your Life, Prom 2010

Usually I entitle posts with my clients names, but in this situation that could have taken a few lines. I was so blessed to have the opportunity to photograph my brother-in-law and his group of friends for prom. They are a fun and super-energetic group who obviously enjoy being around each other, and it was a real joy to spend some time with them. We packed a ton of shots into a very short time-span, but I am thrilled with the results and hope they will be, too!

Your first view of this group- Amy, Ashley, Brielle, Emily, Faith, Holly, McKinzey, Miguel, Nate, Nate, Nick, Tyler, and Zach.

I told you, these guys have a lot of energy!

The lovely ladies twirled in their dresses on the sidewalk:

I had to be creative to find places to fit them all!

Look at all those beautiful shoes and corsages!

Just the girls.

Just the guys.

I LOVE this shot:

Another favorite:

Dancing as couples.

Lookin' good : )
